I had the same issue. You need to play on the playstore version 1st, delete and install mod. I did that with the transfer character thingy. I couldn't pass the tutorial either because the gear makes you too powerful and if I remember correctly, you are supposed to die in the one quest to trigger something. Think its stage 2.3 or something
