it's not crashing.
it's the code that force the app to close when ads not playing after some time. the blackmod team insert it to prevent anyone downloading the free version but then using adguard.
the problem today is the ads API doesn't work which means no ads played, which mean the code will force close the app.
It doesn't have anything to do with AE nor the new patches.

In that case, is there any workaround for this issue?
Or would we have to download the VIP version instead?
Alternatively, do we just wait for the blackmod team to fix their ads API/server?
(Because it looks like other mods besides this one are also affected)

We already ask too many times for it to be possible on free version, but you haven't realized it. I don't know why the reason behind that, but it would be nice if you can do it. Also, you will get more premium membership too.

Even if you turned off your Adguard.. the game simply won't show an ad when you open it, so it'll keep crashing.

I don't think you understand the "ads API" part. It's when the app trying fetching ads from agency and failed
